Start

Hunting in Sweden.

The course for the Swedish hunting exam, in your language, and everything on the way to your first hunt.

Watercolour plate of a black grouse cock in the heather
The black grouse (orre) displays at dawn. Whoever wants to be there gets up early, sits still and listens. That is hunting, and that is what Orre teaches.
For newcomers

From newcomer to licensed hunter, step by step

Five steps, in this order. Orre guides you through each of them.

  1. Hunter ID

Register in the hunter register (Jägarregistret). You do not need a Swedish personal identity number.

  2. Theory test

Learn with Orre, then take the digital test with an authorised examiner. It can be switched to English.

  3. Practical tests

Shotgun and rifle tests at an approved shooting range. Which ones you need depends on your firearm. Orre lists the ranges of your county with phone and e-mail.

  4. State hunting card

Pay the state hunting fee for the year; the card is in the hunter register.

  5. Firearms licence

The licence for your hunting firearm comes from the police.

Then the big question: where to hunt.

The hunting journal

A season, written down as it happened.

Questions and answers

Honest answers.

Is this official?

No. Orre is an independent product and is not affiliated with any authority or hunting association. We prepare you for the exam; the exam itself is taken with an authorised examiner.

Can I take the exam in German or Dutch?

The theory test can be taken in English, and that is what the course prepares you for: learn in your language, sit the test in English. For other languages, ask your examiner.

Do I need to speak Swedish?

Not for the course. You will meet the Swedish terms throughout, because your examiner and your future hunting companions use them, but the explanations are in your language.

How many questions, and what do I need to pass?

The theory test has {value} questions, each with {value} answer options and exactly one correct. You need at least {value} correct answers to pass, and you have {value} minutes.

The exam simulations use the same format. Check the current figures with your examiner before you book.

What does the exam cost?

The exam fee is paid to the examiner, not to us, and it is separate from the €89 for the course. The path shows you where to find the current amount.

Current theory test fee: {value}.

Is there a subscription?

No. The course costs €89 once. The companion features are free for everyone, with or without the course.

What happens after I pass the theory?

The practical tests, the state hunting card and the firearms licence. The path walks you through every step, in your language, and the course’s field knowledge helps with your first season.

Will Orre get me a hunting ground?

No, nobody can promise that. Orre shows you where newcomers look, from the state and forest companies to clubs and lease sites, and when places are handed out. You apply with them yourself; afterwards the map helps you keep track of your own ground.
